Angel Reese, the former LSU standout and 2023 NCAA Women’s National Champion, steps into a new chapter of her basketball career after being selected number 7 overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA draft, a move that analysts say will allow her the ability to make an immediate impact on both ends of the floor.
Speaking to reporters about her draft selection, Reese shared her excitement, stating, “Being drafted into the WNBA is a dream come true for me. It’s a testament to all the hard work and sacrifices I’ve made over the years, and I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity to compete at the highest level.”
According to Bleacher Report, the 2024 WNBA draft featured a deep talent pool, with teams plotting to secure promising players for the upcoming season. Iowa’s guard Caitial Clark was drafted number 1 by Indiana Fever Indiana Fever. The Los Angeles Sparks drafted Cameron Brink, a forward out of Stanford, at number 2, and via Phoenix Mercury, the Chicago Sky selected Kamilla Cardoso, a center out of South Carolina, with their number 3 pick.
Reese weighed in on playing with Kamilla in the upcoming season. “My first time playing Kamilla was on one of the biggest stages in my life when she played for Hamilton Heights [Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tenn.], and I played for St. Frances [Academy in Baltimore] in high school, and we battled,” Reese said. “Now, being able to be teammates is going to be amazing.

Kamillia Cardoso led South Carolina to a undefeated season and a victory in the NCAA National Women’s Championship in 2024, defeating Iowa 87 to 75. Drafting Reese and Cardoso gives the Chicago Sky two NCAA Women’s National Champions.
Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky will kick off their 2024 WNBA season on May 15th against the Dallas Wings.
