Joliet City Center Launches Summer Events in Downtown Joliet
A new chapter for downtown Joliet begins this May as the Joliet City Center prepares to open with a full schedule of concerts, markets, and community fun!
The City of Joliet recently released its first event lineup for the new outdoor venue, located at the corner of Clinton and Chicago Streets across from the Rialto Square Theatre. The center is designed to host concerts, festivals, and weekly programming as part of the city’s effort to increase activity in the area.
“City Square will be the communal heart of downtown Joliet, and this summer’s programming is going to bring it to life in a way our residents and visitors will love,” said Terry D’Arcy. “From live music and farmers markets to family story time and Star Wars Day, there is something for everyone at City Square this season. We built this space for the community, and the community is already making it their own.”

Leading the lineup is Sounds on 66, a Friday night concert series that begins May 1 and runs through the season. The series will feature a variety of music and is intended to support ongoing entertainment tied to Joliet’s Route 66 identity.
The Chicago Street Farmers Market will return on May 22 and continue weekly through September 18. Vendors will include local farmers, small businesses, and artisan sellers. City officials expect the market to help bring steady foot traffic to the area.
A major kickoff event, the City Center Celebration, is planned for June 26 and 27. The two-day event will include live performances and a drone show, marking one of the first large public uses of the space.
Classic cars and live music will come together during Cars & Guitars, scheduled on select Thursdays throughout the season. Officials say the event is expected to draw both residents and visitors.
Star Wars Day on June 6 will feature themed activities, vendors, and entertainment across multiple locations, including the City Center.

The season will also align with a major milestone for the Rialto Square Theatre, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary on May 3 with tours and public events.
The Joliet City Center is expected to open to the public in May, with an official dedication ceremony scheduled for June 18. Officials say the goal is to maintain a consistent schedule that keeps the area active throughout the season.
The City Center is part of a broader effort to make downtown Joliet more pedestrian-friendly while supporting local businesses and community activity.
