The Joliet Unity Movement (JUM) is expanding its community programming in 2026, offering new opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience while contributing to local initiatives.
For more than 13 years, Joliet Unity Movement has played a consistent role in the Joliet community through events, workshops, and mentoring programs focused on youth development and engagement.
As part of its latest expansion, the organization is introducing year-round programming aimed at students across multiple age groups.
Among the new initiatives is the Movement Leadership Academy, designed for junior high, high school, and college students. The program focuses on building leadership skills, communication, and community awareness.
Joliet Unity Movement is also preparing to launch the Justice Impact Institute, a 10-month program set to begin in June 2026, which will provide deeper exposure to civic engagement and social impact work.

rooted in the belief that true leadership begins with selfless action.
Joliet Unity say the expanded programming gives students meaningful opportunities beyond the classroom. Participants will be able to engage in volunteer work, internships, and research-based activities that contribute to real community projects.
“These opportunities are designed to support both personal development and community impact,” said Amy Sanchez, Director of Operations and Strategic Development for Joliet Unity Movement.
Students who participate can earn community service hours while gaining practical experience in leadership, teamwork, and civic involvement. The programs are also aimed at helping young people explore future career paths through hands-on learning.
Opportunities include:
- Internships Research
- Event support and program facilitation
- Community outreach and engagement
Joliet Unity Movement is currently encouraging schools, colleges, and community partners to share these opportunities with students and faculty. The organization is also open to building deeper partnerships, including coordinated service learning programs and group engagement initiatives.
Community leaders applaud efforts like these, which are critical in developing our future leaders and creating pathways for youth to stay engaged, develop skills, and make a lasting impact in our community
